What makes Express Entry the most sought after route to Canada? What are the categories under it?

The Express Entry system was introduced to help fast-track the Canadian immigration process as well as make it more accessible to skilled foreign immigrant wanting to immigrate to Canada and receive permanent Canadian residence. It is not a program but rather a system that manages the three main federal economic immigration programs:

• Federal Skilled Worker Program
• Federal Skilled Trades Program
• Canada Experience Class.

Each program has a specific set of criteria that must be met in order to qualify for the Express Entry system.

Selection factor points assess your eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. You will be assessed based on your selection factors and assigned an overall score out of 100.

You need to score 67/100 to qualify for the program and to submit an Express Entry application.

The eligible candidates can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). For EOI, the candidate needs to create an online Express Entry profile and enter the Express Entry Pool, where they will be awarded a score by the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

How to calculate my CRS score?

Candidates will be assigned a score out of 1,200 under the CRS. This score is utilized to rank the federal economic candidates to apply for immigration to Canada. Candidates have an option to improve their rankings and increase their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

IRCC performs the draw twice or thrice every month from this pool of Candidates, where the top-ranked candidate will receive an ITA accordingly. The use of CRS is not a selection criterion but it's a ranking system for eligible candidates under the three primary immigration programs of Canada

It provides a systematic classification structure that categorizes the entire range of occupational activity in Canada for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating occupational data for labour market information and employment-related program administration. Occupational information is of critical importance for the provision of labour market and career intelligence, skills development, occupational forecasting, labour supply and demand analysis, employment equity, and numerous other programs and services.

Under Federal Skilled Worker Program

Skill Type 0: occupations related to management, such as factory managers, resort managers, or office managers.

Skill Level A: professional occupations that usually need a university degree, such as chemists, veterinarians, or pharmacists.

Skill Level B: technical occupations that usually require a college diploma or apprentice training, such as administrative assistants, firefighters, photographers.

Under Federal Skilled Trades Program

Skill Level C: intermediate occupation that usually need a high school diploma, such as truck drivers, travel guides, or receptionists.

Skill Level D: labour occupation that usually only require training, such as dry cleaners, kitchen helpers, or receptionists.
